The 3DS port is impressive so far with smooth graphics and a frame rate of 30fps. Hopefully, this technicality will mean that this port is safe. It is such a shame that Nintendo tends to crack down hard on fan creations when they are only made because of the love that these creators have for their properties.
The latest port for the game comes from Reddit user Stranno, who shared the fan project yesterday.Īlthough most modification and reuse of Nintendo properties are usually illegal (they have a pretty bad reputation of shutting down any and all fan projects) this port is technically not an illegal project as the source code for the game – reverse-engineered from the Nintendo 64’s original source code- was made in a ‘clean room’ environment.
Super Mario 64has been ported to both the PC and the Nintendo Switch over the last few months in order to allow players to experience the Nintendo 64 classic on more contemporary platforms.
It never ceases to amaze me how incredible fan-made content and mods can be and the newest fan-made port is no exception.
